this is not how they said it would be 
you’re preaching the end, i can’t forget the means
the harsher the tone, stronger the hand
taking hold, go on possess the land 

where children cry in the desert heat,
this ain’t no time to be a refugee
snakes in the barns, sing siren songs
come begging for bread you’ll just give them a stone 

oh and you, turning blinded eyes, wielding god like he’s a weapon
there’s a time to love, a time to cry and a time to remain silent

but now i’m angry 

yea it might seem like there is no defense
you say it ain’t real but theres blood on your fists
in the city of god, all the patriots sing
this suffering servant don’t seem much of a king

oh then you, put fuel to the fire
making gods out of your weapons 
when hands to heal forget their use
we use our hands to hurt

and now i’m angry

how long can we numb the pain?
the salt, the taste has gone away,
hearts are weak and tongues are dry,
the wild bird needs the sky

so swear allegiance, i’ll take my creed 
the bride’s left the church, she sleeps with the beast
a children’s crusade, the messenger lost the path,
when the smoke clears away, you’ll still salute the flag
