The lyrics came after hearing of a friend going through a trial in their life, while his wife was having a trial of her own while Kevin was away. The idea that God allows trials in our life to refine us "like gold and silver" (Malachi 3:2-4) and "even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:7)."
