Description
Voice -Over Coming. Instrumental Smooth Groove for now.
Was having a flashback moment a memory that’s pleasing to me
It was at a special time and I’m gonna let you in for a little peek
As a little kid I would look out the window, and see the adults all dressed up
Going out for the evening to have a great time dancing and all of that adult stuff
In those times
Men had cresses in their pants and a shine on their shoes
Their hat’s cocked to the side looking all suave and dapper cool
Women wore pretty pressed dresses worn smartly and a little below their knees
Looking like ebony or jet models, and as elegant as can be
So when I got a little older I wanted to be cool like that
Wanted to make sure my hair, my shined shoes and my clothes was tight
My older sister took her time and taught me the latest dance moves
Now I had to work on my tip (walk) to make it silky smooth
See, I was invited to go to a little kid party
And I wanted to be cool like my older brother and be suave like him at a party
Yea, the party had balloons, a birthday cake, kid games and all
I enjoyed myself as all did, but I was determined not to be a flower on the wall
Then the music came on and some records played
I kept waiting for the Motown one that I practiced with my sister just about everyday
I was really nervous just like all the other kids too
But I could visualize the moves my sister and I rehearsed and then began to move
So I started to bop my head - bounce a little and swayyy
A little at a time you know that cool as ice controlled way
Then this little girl and I met eye to eye
It was time to me to do what I do and give it a try
She started moving her little hips, shoulders and such
So I threw out what I learned and got busy moving just as much
She Latin up on me, and began dipping and moving her feet
I went ghetto rumba on her, as I locked in on that exotic beat
It was my first awwww yea moment and such a relief
I found my groove, maintained my cool as the music feed me
She never saw me sweat, or mess up on my moves
I was the coolest 11 yr old there that was Blactino smooth
Then she started to break it all down on me
I said to myself little girl don’t try me please
I said ok here’s a move you’ll be thinking about all night long
I make you remember me every time you hear this song
All the other kids stopped dancing and came around
As they watched us one up each other and break it on down
Now, back then in Brooklyn when your dance partner goes on the attack
You better bounce back - more dynamic to push that weak stuff back “Holla”!
Now, I saw the young lady some 40 years later
Haven’t talked to her since then or was able to locate her
But by chance our eyes met once more - I winked
She winked back, smiled and pointed to her feet
