Description
Well, normally I’m just the type of twisted
Who probably don’t bother to give a single (Oh, yeah)
But today’s different I gotta say “This ain’t right! To with all this!”
So we gonna have a little meeting here and chat about it
Now how ‘bout you sit your ass down and listen to Alice for a bit
This real talk
Real talk
Real talk
Let’s talk it out
We livin’ in the land of democracy, yeah? (Yeah)
Well then somethin’ must be wrong with humanity (Yeah)
Cuz for some reason y’all be thinkin’ that it’s far more acceptable
To let kids get shot and be dying
Than to simply ban the damn assault rifles
Well, that’s , obviously
‘Cause you’d think it’d be common sense
But I guess not, ‘cause if you listen to our president
You’ll get the feeling he believin’
That though it’s sad these kids be grievin’
(Hell, America be grieving!)
We’re still better off in the streets
In the schools
If everybody’s got concealed carry
Oh, well, let me tell you, to me, it don’t seem sane
When at the same time they saying mental health is to blame
And the real problem is that there ain’t enough bins to lock ‘em up
While ignoring the simple fact
That in America being crazy’s more likely to get you victimized
Than it is to predict that you’ll commit a violent crime
(That’s a fact; look it up)
I feel it deep in my gut
It makes me just as angry as
To see ‘em up there on Capitol Hill
Pointing fingers at each other and just passin’ the buck
Oh, and it breaks my heart to see the kids on television
Traumatized for life before they even got their diplomas
And being so brave, standing up, and speaking out
Showing America that what we doing ain’t enough
While all they got in response at the Town Hall was
“Oh, that’s regrettable, but you’ll move on”
It’ll all go back to normal,
We’ll forget the Twitter storm
And nothing will change, and everything will be the same
So this just me, humble Alice
Sending out my SOS to all you people
Begging you on my knees, pleading,
Don’t forget what happened: Columbine, Virginia Tech, Las Vegas, Orlando, Parkland
And so many more other places throughout this proud nation
That I’d need to write another song if I wanted to name ‘em all
And I’m begging you
Keep protesting; don’t give up on this fight
Don’t give up ‘til our kids no longer scared to go to school or to sleep at night
Put this song on repeat ‘til our lawmakers no longer can ignore it
‘Cause right now what they ignoring is a bunch of grieving kids screaming,
“Please, save our souls, just pass some laws, we’re outta time,
“And every day more you waste we gotta see another one of our friends die.”
Let me tell ya, that hits me hard, got my heart breaking
So now Alice gon’ try to help ‘em out, add her voice to theirs and say that
“Never before have I been so disappointed in humankind.”
