another song that started out life as me “doodling on the acoustic” while waiting to get in the bathroom. also, i've recently re-discovered the rock band deep purple ~ previously i was only familiar with “smoke on the water” & “black night”, although i had heard of “child in time”. while listening to the “essential deep purple” cd in the car i heard “highway star” for the first time and was blown away by what a great track it is. i was particularly impressed with ritchie blackmore's guitar playing and the much missed jon lord's organ solos and the interplay between the two. i began to wonder if i could do something of a similar vein and so this track “stranded” was born. the lyrics are a bit “heavy/death metal(ish)” and reflect the current world crisis that we're all living through...

after letting version 1 “marinade in it's own juices” for a while i've made some alterations to the mix. i've “fattened up” the verse vocals by adding a take that's an octave lower, doubled the chorus and end section ones and removed a couple of electric rhythm guitar parts...

storm clouds rising in the east...
a force of darkness heads our way...
is this the nature of “the beast”?
