way back in the late 80s graeme & i recorded his “house full of strangers" cassette using 2 x 4 track cassette decks and bouncing tracks between them ~ it was a laborious process but we got there in the end! a few years ago i realised i had the technology/software to transfer the tracks from the cassette to a pc hard drive so set about doing so before the natural life span of a cassette tape came to an end. the results weren't perfect (audible tape hum/hiss and some tape wobble) but at least the tracks were saved and now dear listener, you have a chance to hear them too. dw

this track, despite it's seemingly meager instrumentation proved, problematic to record. instead of using the rx15 drum machine as featured on other tracks i for some reason decided to use a drum pattern off a yamaha keyboard instead (a moment of madness perhaps?). whatever the reason, it didn't work and we ended up with a recording that neither of us were truly happy with. thanks to the advent of digital recording it occurred to me that any tracks we'd recorded that we or indeed i wasn't happy with could be re-recorded with much more control over the process. i've since re-arranged/re-recorded several tracks, one of which, not surprisingly, is “crying in the dark”. all that was required was for graeme to re-do his vocals but sadly he passed away before we were able to do this. dw
