"yamang dagat" (treasures of the sea) was written (words and music) by filipino lawyer and law professor, atty. john bongat, to remind his fellow filipinos of their bounden duty to protect the west philippine sea, which belongs to the philippines pursuant to the un arbitral ruling in 2016 confirming philippine ownership of all waters around, betwern and connecting all 7,100 islands of the philippine archipelago by virtue of the archipelagic doctrine. the favorable ruling includes, as part of philippine territory and patrimony, the islands and shoals now occupied and threatened to be occupied, as well as the west philippine sea waters, now heavily guarded, by its neighbor - the behemothian naval and economic power, china. the song empathizes particularly with the sorry plight of the bullied and hapless filipino fishermen on west philippine sea, who continue to be deprived of the free and unhampered use of marine resources that are rightfully theirs.
