Jolly good lunch - beer, wine and brandy.
Leaving the club, feel fine and dandy.
Lots of decisions affecting our lives -
And if I get them wrong it's no great surprise.

Have you seen this white paper? I don't mind admitting
It's the best we could do at the last all-night sitting.
Cocaine and caffeine to make up for lost sleep -
Bloodshot eyes bulging in faces like sheep.

Was it so long ago I believed in what I said?
The visions of Utopia we all that filled my head.
But now I tow the party line - make do with that instead.
House of Commons, House of Lords, House of the Living Dead....

Trot along home now, the commuter train waits,
But are those officials or are they the fates?
I'm never quite certain as I go through the gates.
That last spending cut might have sealed my fate.

So what is there that's left of the man who once was me?
And if I searched my soul would there bec anything to see?
