There’s a light in my window tonight
haven’t turned it on much lately
i’ve been reflectin’ in the dark most the time
stayin’ out of sight

the fire’s down to embers,
it might go out before i get to tend to it
but a night that’s cold will only be
a temporary hold on me
and that’s alright

cause if it goes out
i’ll try again
it’s not hard to start the burning
once the wind
dies down

there’s a part of a letter i began
sittin’ on the table near my coat
a word or two. i changed a few
but then that’s what i do
i never finished it

just got caught up with the mending of the plan
the one that didn’t work
and now i’ve lost my pen
i can’t find it, if i do, then
i’ll finish what i wrote

for all i know
i’ll try again

there’s this somethin’ in my memory
that’s tactfully remindin’ me of where i’ve been
it doesn’t seem to change the fact
i did it to myself and that’s
