over the keyboard, i stare at the screen
scrolling through notes and punching the keys
jobs getting done but it doesn’t seem to ease

nervously placing my hands to the face
taking a bite and i’m getting a taste
personal toothpicks begin to create

not a sports reference nor description of film
gnawing at skin with cuticles peeled
tensed up and stressed out a constant ordeal

prolonged habit that’s making me bleed
chapped lips, bacteria ain’t something i need
but it seems, this urge controlling me

still at the keyboard, still at the screen
notes broken down, still pounding the keys
it’s getting done but nail biter isn’t pleased

maybe i should play guitar and never eat
