is it too early to put up a christmas inspired song? as we've just seen some christmas stock in a local m & s today (18/09/21) then i think not!

genesis of the lyrics to this composition were inspired by a trip sue & i made to edinburgh just before christmas 2019 (pre-covid). we were surprised and shocked by the number of homeless people there were out on the streets. many huddled around atms or near the doorways of supermarkets. we were warned not to give any money to anyone due to the prevalence of “begging gangs”...

the idea of the song itself first appeared in the early 90s but “lay on a shelf” for many years waiting for some inspiration to finish it...

i saw an old man in princes street...
he was cold and he was alone...
all his life scattered around him...
i could see he was chilled to the bone...

far too many lonely souls...
