This Band Is Indie Music’s Biggest Secret

Indie Music at its Best!

If you haven’t heard of the band, Bleachers, yet, you might as well check them out on Youtube or Spotify. With their first indie music single, “I Wanna Get Better,” they have catapulted up and around the United States – but still not many people know them. That’s about to change.

Inspired by music from the 1980s, the New York City band makes music that caters to the “nostalgia generation.” With the signature heavy synth-styles commonly heard in 80s pop hits, lead singer and songwriter Jack Antonoff writes lyrics that touch the heart of any American teenager who wants to know what it was like in the past.

However, the band isn’t actually quite a band…yet. Antonoff is primarily famous for his runs in the bands Steel Train and Fun, but he isn’t quite ready to make Bleachers a full-time commitment. Although they are signed with RCA Records, the Bleachers are taking their time and slowly making waves in the industry. However, even without being massively popular, they’ve performed live at the VMAs and have already begun to tour around the country, releasing their latest indie music mini-album Terrible Thrills, Vol. 2 in 2015.

It remains to be seen whether they will break the Billboard Hot 100, but from the looks of it, they might not even want to – each band member has already had huge success with their own respective bands that the group sounds more like an experimental music project than a standalone act like Maroon 5. Even if that’s the case, the fact that they have been this successful so far is amazing. Not to mention that they did break a Billboard chart with their single “I Wanna Get Better” on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (it still counts, okay?).

Much like how other bands pop out into stardom with one song, Bleachers will be one to look out for in the near future. Contrary to their name (see what I did there?), I’m looking forward to standing up when they start performing in stadiums around the country. Until then, I’ll be waiting in the bleachers.
